The driver has options to send the cover images which means calibre generates them from the cover in the library. That means that the cover you see for an epub, depends on the code in the first page as much as the actual image. For epubs and other formats, it renders the first page and uses that as the cover. For kepubs, it extracts the image that is marked as the cover and size that as needed. None of them are completely accurate.įor the cover, the device generates the covers from the book. The only real reason to do it ahead of time is if you need to customise the conversion for each book.įor metadata, use whatever metadata sources you want to. Calibre will send a supported format, or convert during the send-to-disk. Only do it if you only want to use Kepubs on the device.
